Recovery 101: Train Hard, Recover Smart
Progress happens between sessions. Learn how rest, sleep, nutrition, and training load work together.
Exercise is a stress that signals the body to adapt. The adaptation itself happens during recovery, which is why rest is part of the plan, not a break from it.
Manage your training load
Increasing volume or intensity gradually gives your body time to adapt. Large, sudden jumps in training are a common contributor to overuse injuries.
The recovery basics
Sleep, enough total food and protein, and hydration do most of the heavy lifting. Many people also find that light movement on rest days, like walking or easy cycling, helps them feel better between harder sessions.
Listen to the signals
Ongoing fatigue, declining performance, poor sleep, or nagging aches can mean you need more recovery. Pain that is sharp, getting worse, or not improving with rest is worth having checked by a professional.
